The Archaeological Museum of Betancuria is located on the street Roberto Roldan, in the historic area of town hall, In a property of traditional architecture of Fuerteventura restored and fitted out as a museum.
With five exhibition halls of which two are designed to archaeology, two to paleontology and one to ethnographic objects.
In the section of Archaeology, the first room is dedicated to the exhibition of antiquities, models, explanatory texts on the first shipments of
Europeans in the Canary Islands to the natural resources of the island and the culture of Mahos. |
The second room is a recreation of the world of magic-religious aboriginals of the island through the exhibition of idols, texts and photographs. There is also a large sample of pottery of different sizes and characteristics.
In the first division of paleontology is located a set of panels that explains the paleo-climatic evolution of Fuerteventura plus a sample of different fossils found in major paleontological deposits.
In the room there are two of paleontology an interesting sample of bone material from excavations made at the Cave of Villaverde, with explanatory panels.
Already in the room can be found ethnographic exhibition of objects as “lebrillos”, streetlights, “zurrones”, hand mills, mortars, etc.
