This natural park of about 470 hectares is located in the north of Fuerteventura, is one of the last protected territories where man has not been installed to live forever. In the past the villagers called “focas monjes” swimming by the Atlantic as sea lions and hence the current name of the Natural Park.
Today we can find on this island eroded landscapes, dozens of species of birds and countless plants.
The small island is by the Atlantic between cliffs with small waves and sandy beaches or lava where the tides rise and fall leaving small coves in the interior of the island of few metres and turquoise water obscured only by volcanic debris.

It belongs to the municipality of La Oliva, and was one of the first natural areas of the Canary Islands being protected. It was declared Natural Park next to the dunes of Corralejo in the year 1982 and later in the year 1994 is as independent Natural Park Islote de Lobos and the Dunes as Natural Park of Dunes Corralejo.
The island has great environmental value being declared: SPA (Special Protection Area for birds), (ZEPA, Zona especial protección de las aves) and OPS (Place of Community interest) (LIC, Lugar de interés comunitario).
At present, after an approval in 2000, a master plan for the use and management of the park several shipping companies with ships set sail from Corralejo in Fuerteventura and sometimes from the island of Lanzarote in less than half an hour of travel to bring visitors to the island to enjoy this experience.
