This small fishing village, dedicated to the Virgen Del Buen Viaje, has as a leading centre a small pier used by fishermen.
Located in the northwest corner of Fuerteventura, El Cotillo is a quiet village, still maintains an air of the past. It has delicious seafood restaurants, bars and shops. It is a very warm town who is living today the beginning of tourism development.
El Cotillo is the newest resort of Fuerteventura, and here we find Playa del Castillo, one of the most beautiful in the area, north of the small harbour is, for many, the main tourist attraction in El Cotillo, beautiful coves, small beaches and lagoons of white sand and wonderful green turquoise coloured water.
A little farther south of El Cotillo we find Playa del Ajibe de la Cueva and Playa del Águila, both are very pretty, and are not very visited as being very difficult to access.
At the beginning of the cliffs south of the port and close to the centre of El Cotillo, we find Fortaleza del Tostón, it is a rounded tower, built in 1790, for the sighting of the pirates who used to invade the island.
A few miles north of Cotillo there is a lighthouse; there it is possible to enjoy a pleasant walk through this place
