The handicrafts is one of the essential components of the cultural heritage of Fuerteventura. The mostly handmade works include ceramics, potteries, sticheries, basketries, tejidos, tallas en maderas and stonemasonries.
Every year in May takes places a market which is promoted by the insular handicrafts sector and where all artisans of Fuerteventura and the other Canary islands meet in order to offer for sale their handicrafts. Every of the exposed pieces is a handmade single piece of high quality. The embroideries are the most famous of the numerous different handicraft pieces. Its tecniques and styles vary from village to village.
Not to forget the ceramics that present a very old history and have always been playing an important role in the daily life of the local people being used for cooking or the storage of foods. The woodcraft find its strongest expression in the production of the traditional musical instruments such as the guitar, timple and the badurria.
An ideal place to learn more about the handicrafts on Fuerteventura or to deepen existing knowledge is the Ecomuseo de la Acogida in Puerto del Rosario. Here we find different factories, where the production of different handmade pieces is demonstrated.
